Abstract: It has become commonplace to say that modern sports are losing their ethical stance; that commercialization has damaged the concept of fair play and led to the priority of profits over good sportsmanship; and that sports are no longer the honest competition they used to be. In this article, I will explore the equivocal sides of modern sports reflected in commercialization and fair play and seek to identify the relationship between the two, their mutual influence and the situation in modern sports.
