Abstract:	自唐至宋，中國的經濟重心逐漸南移且快速發展，福建蘊藏許多如金、銀、銅、鉛等重要的金屬礦，是製造貨幣的原料，可以供經濟發展之所需。而自唐代開徵初茶稅後，茶成為政府的重要收入來源，東南丘陵是栽植茶的主要地區之一。為了開礦與種茶，相信吸引大量群眾投入福建山區從事開發的活動。福建境內雖多山地丘陵，但人們還是可以利用眾多發源於山內的溪流，運用河川所形成的天然水道，或是依河谷開鑿的陸路交通，做為人員往來、貨物運送的管道。
