Abstract Since map teaching has long been ignored in our elementary education, and resulted in lack of map knowledge and poor map reading abilities. This study is there fore to: 1. survey the real situation of map teaching and recommend some methods for enhancing the map teaching in the elementary schools. 2. survey the map related material in the undertaking courses of the elementary schools. 3. evaluate the map knowledge and map reading ability of the high grade students in Taipei area. 4. recommend some methods for enhancing map teaching in the elementary education.
