    Abstract:

    Abstract
This thesis demonstrates the characteristics of Su, Tung-po's poems in relation to his writing orientation and further analyzes his stylistic originality. Su, shih, in contrast with his contemporaries Liu, yung and Yen, chi-tao during North Sung, composed poems in a rather direct manner tinted with vivacity. In addition, since he selected his motifs from a great variety of source, he ended up an influential figure for the poet community. Poetic historians in consensus name Su's poems "the prodigious poem". In South Sung, patriotic poets such as Lu, iu and Hsin, ch'i-chi, inherited Su's poetic motifs and hence created numerous poems of excellence. These poets are all denoted "the prodigious school", differentiated from the otherwise "tender school". This thesis exemplifies several of Su's poems so as to render evident his originality and influence upon poetic posterities.
