    英文摘要
This paper tries to exemplify the various kinds of mutations of the
meanings of Chinese words. For better understanding of the development of the
meanings of each word, former studies and classical literature are amply and
broadly cited for discussion and analysis. The transformation of the meanings of
Chinese words can generally be classified into three main types: 1.)the
extensive or broad type; 2.) the narrowing or condensing type;and 3.) the
transferring type. The transferring type can further be divided into five kinds,
i.e., the positive kind, the negative kind, the strengthening kind, the
weakening kind, and others. Relevant issues are discussed at the concluding part
    of this paper.
