    Abstract: Abstract
      As a humanistic educator, A.S. Neill founded summerhill school which is situated within the village of Leiston, Suffolk in England in 1921. The children in Summerhill enjoy the life without appealing to teacher's authority, their spontaneous needs are praised, and thus to get them interested in the world around him.
      I. The purpose of this study are:
       1. To understand the education idea of A.S. Neill.
       2. To analyze and criticize the ideas and practices of Summerhill school.
       3. To analyze the implications of Summerhill to the child education in the world.
       4. To propose some suggestions on improving the child education in Taiwan.
      II. The practices of Summerhill school:
       1. The goal of humanistic education-
        (1) To integrate the education of personality.
        (2) To appreciate for the student self-goverment.
        (3) To stimulate the creativity.
       2. The contents of humanistic education-
        (1) cognitive domain.
        (2) affective domain.
        (3) psychomotor domain.
       3. The methods of humanistic education-
        (1) To create an open and warm learning climate.
        (2) To make role-playing and discussion into curriculum.
        (3) To put the multiple evaluations into practice.
      III. The influence of Summerhill on the world:
       America, Japan, England, Norway, France, West Gremany, Yugoslavia, Australia and Taiwan.
      IV. Suggestions:
       1. To build up teachers correct sense of value.
       2. To revivid the humanistic educational ideals.
       3. To strenghen the humanictic educational goal.
       4. To keep balance of the formal and hidden curriculum.
       5. To apply vivid and active teaching method.
