Abstract The book "Kinpingmy" was written during the latter period (Shih-tsung, Shen-tsung generations) in Ming Dynasty. From the book, we learned that the magical calculations of shintoism formed the cultural customs which reflected the fact that Buddhism was quite rampant in the society of Ming Dynasty. This paper is an analysis of the book, centered around the different activities of Taoists. Then depicted their duties and situations in the society. At last, we'll find the result ─ the complex of the society in the latter period of Ming Dynasty. No difference of a wizard and a doctor at that time, the whole society was Taoismized, no matter of ceremonies or amusements. Under such a special political and economical circumstance, it brought up a lot of rich merchants and citizens, that constituted the back ground of "Kinpingmy". There are five chapters in this paper: 1. "Kinpingmy" and the background of Taoists' magical calculations. 2. The nature of Taoist activities and "Kinpingmy". 3. The sorts of magical culculations and their social services in "Kinpingmy". 4. The positions of the magicians in the society of "Kinpingmy" 5. Conclusion. This paper may be served as a way to study social customs from works of fiction, as a Chinese proverb says: "Cast a brick to geta gem", that's the hope!
