Abstract 1. According to the revised and republished issue of "The Standard Curricula of Elementary School" by Ministry of Education in September 1993, it announced music should be taught from first grade to sixth grade twice a week, and each period should be lasting for 40 minutes. 2. The standard of new curricula divides music education materials to six aspects-solfege, score reading, singing, playing, improvising, and appreciation. 3. The best time for child to develop acoustic ability is age 4 to 7. Therefore teaching audiation starts from aural perception. 4. Reading score's training begins with quarter note and two-eighth notes equal one beat. The 1st & 2nd grades should familiar with five-tone scale. 5. The materials for students to singing must include traditional folk songs. The 1st & 2nd grades must have variety of experience singing with many traditional children songs, and poems. 6. Other than percussion instruments' playing, students learn to perform recorder and oral-organ only. 7. The goal of music creativity/improvisation is to increase the chances for students to perform, rather than fosters every student to be a composer. 8. The materials for music appreciation should include Chinese and Western music both.
