ABSTRACT This study investigates types of development on concepts of drawing using a sample of students in the Department of Art Education at Taipei Municipal Teachers College. This study employs a questionnaire consisted of seven items of open type questions. The first item is to ask students to give a definition by themselves. The second item is to examine the appropriateness and contradiction of the first item. The third item is to do an evaluation according to the direction of each student's life experience. The fourth item is to investigate students' understanding of social institution. The fifth and sixth items are to investigate students' ability in execution. The seventh item is to investigate students' ability in integration while facing "different opinions". This study investigate types of students' concepts of drawing according to the development of reflection representation in order to clarify the role of professors who teach drawing in the Department of Art Education.
