Abstract:	[摘要](資料來源:博客來網路書店) 本書作者使用台灣老照片題材，以沈家及張家的日誌時代老照片詮釋作為研究對象，從照片的視覺符碼上來探討日治時期台灣人的文化認同現象。使用質性文化研究法，認為照片亦即是絕符碼具有1.證據 2.儀典 3.舞台 4.故事 5.圖像 6.歷史 7.權力 8.紀錄 9.科技等九種意義，以「描述」與「解釋」的步驟進行閱讀老照片的內容。從照片中可以看到台灣視覺文化的根源與發展，看到台灣家庭文化的核心價值，台灣文化是漢人、日本和西方文化混交的結合體。為介紹台灣文化藝術的專書，資料豐富，可讀性極高。
