    Abstract: 血桐常出現在臺灣低海拔的荒廢地,且具有潛力能夠往周圍的草地擴張而形成血桐的次生純林。血桐在四季中常有落葉的現象,往往在血桐林下有落葉堆積。血桐落葉的水溶性萃取液對鬼針草種子有明顯的萌芽抑制。乙醚的萃取液經LH20管柱分離後所得到的第三管分離液對萵苣的種子有抑制作用,再將第三瓶的分離液以矽膠管柱分離,得到八瓶的分離液,第四到第六瓶的分離液在500ppm下完全抑制萵苣種子的發芽。這些結果顯示血桐的落葉含有能抑制植物生長的毒物質,這些毒物質自血桐的落葉中釋出抑制鄰近的植物,血桐藉落葉的毒性,可以進入鄰近草地中擴展其族群的大小。
