Abstract:	本文主要目的是探討清領時期原住民義學（番學）的形成與發展，這當中「牡丹社事件」，對於清廷後續針對臺灣原住民教育作為，以及原住民義學的發展，具有重要的影響。清帝國面對日本當局對於未施政教之地非為版圖之質疑，進而在牡丹社事件之善後事項中，將「設番學」視為其中之一，對於原住民實施教化，避免事件再次重演。只可惜這些依據善後事項新設之原住民義學，在沒有官方經費的持續挹注下，大多草草結束，無法見到其具體之影響。
