The purposes of this study are to analyze to current principal selection system in Taipei elementary and junior high schools, and then to provide some reform recommendations. The authors compare the content of 'The Self-Government Regulation for Principal selection in Taipei elementary and Junior High Schools' with the programs of other local governments in Taiwan. In addition, the authors conduct a literature review at principal selection practices in Taiwan and other developed countries. According to the comparison and literature review findings, the authors provide several principles and specific recommendations for reforming the system.
